CMP Sits Down with Nobel Laureate Dr. Stanley Whittingham at The Battery Show

Earlier this month, our team traveled to Detroit for The Battery Show 2025, one of the industry’s leading events focused on battery technology and clean energy solutions.

CMP was proud to be part of the New York State Pavilion, joining other companies helping to advance the state’s clean energy sector. The show brought together manufacturers, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world to exchange ideas and explore the future of energy storage.

Throughout the week, Ed Zimmermann, CMP’s Subject Matter Expert in Energy and Renewables, hosted several episodes of Ed Talks right from the show floor. One highlight was an in-depth interview with Dr. Stanley Whittingham, Nobel Laureate and co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery, who shared his thoughts on the challenges and opportunities shaping the battery industry in North America.

Dr. Whittingham spoke about the importance of rebuilding domestic manufacturing, training the next generation of engineers, and collaborating with global leaders to accelerate production in the United States. He also emphasized the need for greater focus on battery safety and public awareness, which are key to building confidence and support for energy storage systems.

At Binghamton University, Dr. Whittingham continues to mentor students through Battery New York, a program connecting research with real-world manufacturing. His vision includes creating a Battery Safety Institute to train engineers, first responders, and policymakers, helping ensure that innovation translates into safe, sustainable progress.

The Battery Show 2025 was an important week for CMP and for the energy community as a whole. The exchange of ideas and conversations served as a reminder of how far the industry has come and the opportunities that lie ahead.
