La chaîne de télévision communautaire 34 parle de CMP Solutions Mécaniques AvancéesBINGHAMTON, NY - le 30 janvier, 2009 (en anglais seulement)
(texte) CMP Advanced Mechanical Solutions on Bevier Street started out 40 years ago in Quebec, where headquarters are still located today. Now, the company has manufacturing plants in Ottawa, North Carolina and right here in Greater Binghamton. As NewsChannel 34's Jan Carabeo shows us, CMP has grown from a blacksmithing company that worked by hand, to a high-tech company that boasts one of the biggest machines in North America. The one-time Universal Instruments manufacturing plant on Bevier Street in Binghamton is now home to CMP Advanced Mechanical Solutions. For 2-and-a-half-years, CMP has used the plant to build parts, which don't look like much at first glance, but end up going into more high-tech products. "This will actually be part of an MRI equipment, so if you or a family member is in a medical community facility, there's a good chance our components are in this piece of equipment." says Dan Patton, General Manager of CMP's Binghamton facility. CMP makes parts that'll serve not only the medical industry, but transportation as well. Soon, subway riders in New York City will look up and see these pieces on the ceiling of the cars. But that's not all. CMP also works with Homeland Security and even builds equipment that goes into kiosks. "And of course everyone knows the Red Box where you deposit your video tapes. And components from that product are made here in our plant." says Patton. Made by a 2 to 3 million dollar machine. And it's only 1 of 5 this size in North America. "This machine actually can take on a whole wide range of products that are larger in size but yet require a fine level of precision." says Patton. Precision that's needed when making pieces that'll go into equipment that house x-ray machines, build circuit boards, and carry people on speeding trains. But CMP doesn't just cut, and bend, and weld. "We can offer the design, the engineering, the assembly, the machining, the fabrication. We can solve their problem or help them with their customer." says Patton. Customers mainly in North America, but products that go around the world once assembled with CMP parts. Roughly 100 people work at CMP's manufacturing plant and skilled work force made up of local labor averages 20 years of experience. |
